How do I Register for Rec Basketball in the 2008/2009
Season?
Online Registration is 24 hours a day from September 28 to October
19.
Avoid standing in line. Access online registration by clicking here.
Walk-In Registration is available at Grayson High School at the following
times:
|
Sunday, October 12 |
2:00p - 5:00p |
Walk-in Registration is a good choice for those wishing to pay by cash or check, or wanting their players to try
on the uniforms before ordering.
Late Registration (an additional $25 fee) will be available
October 19 through October 26.
We will also accept registrations at the
Skill Evaluation (an additional $35 fee.) If you are registering at a
Skill Evaluation, be sure to arrive 15 minutes early.
How much does Rec League Basketball cost?
The cost to register in GAA Rec League Basketball is $150 and due at the time of registration. This fee covers the cost of uniforms,
gym rental, game officials, trophy, league overhead, and pre-payment of 20 raffle tickets. Remember,
additional fees apply for registering late!!!
How do the Raffle Tickets
work?
Your athlete will receive 20 raffle tickets during the season which you have already paid for with your registration fee. These
tickets should be resold for $2 each. The person purchasing a raffle ticket from you should give you the completed stub, which you turn
into GAA. The money received is kept by you as reimbursement for your pre-payment. If your athlete sells all 20 raffle tickets, the
net cost of registration is $110.
What Age Groups are available?
GAA Rec League Basketball divides the athletes by grade
(K-12 for Boys, 1-12 for Girls.) Two or more grades
may be combined to form a league with the decision being based upon a review of the number of registrants each year. Last year we had
the following leagues:
| Boys 1st/2nd |
Coed K/1/2 |
| Boys 3rd/4th |
Girls 3/4 |
| Boys 5th/6th |
Girls 5/6/7 |
| Boys 7th/8th |
Girls Senior (8-12) |
| Boys HS (9-12) |

When are Rec League
Skill Evaluations?
The Rec Leagues hold "Skill
Evaluations" starting near the end of October /
start of November (check the
home page for schedule when it is available.) Although all players in the Rec Leagues will be placed on a team, it is required
that players attend their grade levels skill evaluation. The goal of the GAA Rec Leagues is to provide the most balanced and competitive
set of teams possible in all leagues. To accomplish that goal, all players must attend and be assessed so that we can evenly distribute
players of each skill level across all teams. Players not attending the skill evaluation will cause the player to go in a higher round,
negatively impacting the talent and experience mix on their team.
What if my athlete is trying out for McConnell or Grayson HS teams?
The final rosters for the McConnell 8th Grade and the Grayson HS Freshman, JV, and Varsity teams are not announced until
after registration ends on October 19. If your athlete would like to play GAA Rec Basketball in the event they are not selected
for these teams, you have three options:
1. Register them for GAA Rec Basketball by October
19. If your
athlete is selected for the schools team, we will refund their registration fee in full including the $20 handling fee which is
normally not refundable.
2. If you missed registering by October 20 there is a Late Registration
period that lasts until the day before the first
Skill Evaluation. There is an additional $25 Late Registration fee during this period.
3. Walk-in the day of
Skill Evaluations. The late fee at this point goes up
to $35, but you can still register to play.
NOTE: Athletes on the roster of a GBL Travel, McConnell, or Grayson HS
team at any point during the season are not eligible to participate in GAA Rec League Basketball.
When do practices / games
begin?
Practices begin November 10. Opening day tip-off for all leagues is December
6. Most leagues will have a tournament beginning on Sunday immediately after the conclusion of the
Regular Season Schedule. The tournaments end with Championship Day on March
3, 2008.
How many practices / games
are there?
GAA Rec League teams will typically have an average of 2 practices
per week prior to the start of the season. After the season begins, teams will usually have one practice per week and one
game per week (with games scheduled for Saturday.) Note that this is dependent upon the availability of the facilities, the number
of teams in each league, school closings, etc. Also note that the High School league will have fewer practices and play more games than the other age
groups.
Where are practices / games held?
P
ractices and games for all
GAA Rec League teams are held at the gymnasiums of Grayson Cluster Elementary and Middle Schools. For a listing of these schools and
directions to them click on the Gym Locations link on website menu.
Do you need volunteers?
ALWAYS!!! GAA and the Basketball Program are completely staffed by volunteers. Youth Basketball in the Grayson Community
will not be possible without you. If you are interested in being a Coach, Assistant Coach, or League Commissioner please
click here to learn more. If you would like to be a Team Mom or just offer to help in any way
you can, please indicate that when you register your athlete.
